As I sweep up the one thousandth Cheerio™ for the week, I smile to myself. My house is a beautiful mess. I am grateful for these little messes. I am grateful for the healthy boys who send their breakfast, lunch, and dinner tumbling to the floor. I am grateful for the toothless grin that beams up at me every morning. I am grateful for the pudgy hands that reach out and call me momma. I am grateful for the arms that cling to my neck when a little heart is scared, hurt, or excited. I am grateful for the precious time I am allotted with my little boys because I know that life is short.
Someday, my floors will be clean and I will look back on these days with fondness in my heart for I will have worked myself out of a job. Motherhood is the pouring out of one’s self, the investment into the life of another in the hopes that one day that little life will bear the fruits of your labor. Fellow mommas, all of our labor is for but a season—but the impact of it will extend into many seasons.
Someday they will be grown and I pray their lives are a blessing to those around them. I pray that someday, they will be men of God. I pray that someday, their smiles greet another every morning and that their hands hold the hand of their beloved. I pray that someday, they are a blessing in your life. Someday . . . but today, I treasure the moments, the messes, the minutes. I will step on several forgotten Cheerios™ today and in the days to come. As each one crunches beneath my feet, it is a treasured reminder to enjoy the simple things. To kiss the top of a fuzzy head, to grab the hands that reach for mine. To raise them to love the Lord . To stop and thank the Lord for His blessings in my life. To enjoy the minutes I am given. I would encourage you to look around and notice the little messes your children leave for you. Let each one be a treasured reminder to stop and enjoy the minutes.
