By now in our journey with Gator, my heart was sick. We had nothing left to give and nothing left to try. After his reaction to the impossible-to-react-to amino-acid formula at 4 months old, we started at square one and played detective. We began to put together the pieces and found he had a severe intolerance to corn and everything derived from corn—even just traces. . .
As I sweep up the one thousandth Cheerio™ for the week, I smile to myself. My house is a beautiful mess. I am grateful for these little messes. I am grateful for the healthy boys who send their breakfast, lunch, and dinner tumbling to the floor. I am grateful for the toothless grin that beams up at me every morning. I am grateful for the pudgy hands that reach out and call me momma.
You won’t find perfection here, but you will find authenticity. I value authenticity because I find life is far too busy and exhausting to maintain the façade of perfection. I mean, some days I find myself lucky to apply a little make-up!
Let’s be honest here, if you are struggling to find a moment to brush your teeth, apply cosmetics, or shower, you probably don’t have time to erect a wall and paint a mural of perfection to cover the messy bits of life either.
